The Weider Club Sidekick - A Weight Bench with a Storage Rack

The Weider Club Sidekick weight bench is designed for convenience and adjustability. Not only does the stand allow you to move the built-in storage posts up and down, and in and out, but it also comes with a set of weights to get you started in strength training.

The Gym

The Weider Club Sidekick system has two Switch Plate 50 lb. hand-weights, an adjustable stand with holders for the weights, and an adjustable bench. The resistance (weight) on dumbbells can also be changed; you choose weights from 5-25 pounds, adding on plates until they reach a maximum of 50-lbs on each side.

The Club Sidekick Weight Bench includes:

Weider Club Sidekick
  • Adjustable 50-lb Dumbbells (100 lbs total)
  • Weight Stand
  • Multi-position Backrest
  • Flat, incline and decline Olympic Bench
  • Dimensions - 44.4"H x 51.6"W x 48"L
  • Accessory: Exercise chart

The Buzz

The Weider Fitness Club Sidekick system is for beginners only, there aren’t many experts or advanced lifters who would want a set-up like this. It is too confining for starters; for example, the user is bumping his knees against the side stand when doing one arm flys, and so on. The weight bench may feel solid, but so are many other models that aren’t attached to a frame.

The problem with these quick change dumbbells is that they limit you to the 100-lb max and many weight lifters don’t like this type of adjustable dumbbells because they rattle when loaded with light weights. Also, a good weight bench design is critical in free weights training, and you can get a better FID (Flat/Incline/Decline) bench than this for a lot less money. Home gym reviews recommend you double-check the max limit of the bench before you buy; if it is 300 lbs max (like this one) then adding 100-lbs of dumbbells, along with a person, means the user should not weigh over 200 lbs!

Our Take

At $549, the Club Sidekick™ system from Weider is a very attractive unit, but it is too expensive for what you are really after -- basically, a bench and a set of weights. Some people may find this attached weight rack to be within easy reach and be just the ticket, but you might want to consider the time it will take to switch weights on the dumbbells thus interrupting your training. At 210 lbs, this bench will be cumbersome to try to use with other equipment in your gym. You can find better prices on a FID bench, and it will be one you can actually slide under a rack for barbell work. The Weider Club Sidekick is Not Recommended.
