The Buzz
Incline resistant training uses gravitational force of a glideboard placed on a slope to give the user multi-plane movements that work the core stabilizer muscles simultaneously with targeted muscle groups. Using the GRAVITY SYSTEM incorporated in the home gym’s Arm Pulley system, the user experiences a full range of motion in all three planes. As the user pulls percentages of his own body weight, multiple muscle groups are recruited at the same time, resulting in an effective workout in the shortest amount of time. Just 30 minutes on the Total Gym GTS will give you a full resistance training workout.
The 200 biomechanically correct exercises performed on the dynamic pulley system offer both stretch and flexion to create comprehensive and natural workout movements. The Lateral Adjustable Training (LAT) bars have 6 arm pulley locations, and can adjust down to become pull-up bars. With the board incline ranging from 5° to 28°, the 8 resistance levels give the user a range of 5% to 59% of their own body weight, which is used as resistance against the pull of gravity.
The Total Gym GTS also features a wide-based, telescoping Squat Stand that adjusts to 3 height settings to perform squats, bridges, calf raises, and plyometric exercises.
To help you get the most out of your Total Gym, it comes with 3 DVDs and a comprehensive 143-page guide with detailed exercise instructions. The DVDs include a Strength Series, Gravity Pilates, and a Blast Series for intense 15-minute muscle isolation superset targeting.
Our Take
The versatile commercial gym is the ultimate in Total Gym training. The base model is $2895, and you can add a motorized Power Tower package (total: $4695). This model is designed for commercial use and may be over-kill for your home gym, even if you and your family plan to use it more than 10 hours a week. However, if money is no object then the GTS gym is a Best Buy. You won’t find many home gym reviews on it since it is a commercial model, but it is an excellent machine. If the price of the Total Gym GTS is too steep, consider the next best thing in a home incline resistance trainer, the Total Gym XLS that sells for around $1,450.
