The Total Gym 2000: Inexpensive. Fun. Safe. Effective.

The Total Gym 2000 is the basic model of the TV infomercial products endorsed by celebrities such as Chuck Norris and Christie Brinkley. Its appeal is in its efficient, elegant design that provides light to moderate workouts.

The Gym

The Total Gym 2000 entry-level model comes with an easy-to-follow Start It Up DVD to show you how to do the 40+ exercises. Unlike other home gym set-ups, this one is almost ready to go right out of the box, so you can expect to do your first workout within minutes of receiving it.

Total Gym 2000 The specs on the 2000 model are:

  • 250 lb User Weight Capacity
  • Over 40 Exercises
  • Dimensions: 20"W x 7'6"L x 4'H
  • Warranty: Lifetime on Frame
  • Instructional Materials: DVD
  • No Assembly Required
  • 30-Day $49.95 Trial Period

Note: The 2000 model does not come with any accessories.

The Buzz

These glideboards work by making you lift a percentage of your body weight against gravity. The adjustable incline level allows you to increase the level of resistance to a maximum of 60% of the sum of your own body weight. Experts and training pros encourage you to watch the DVD to get the full benefit of the Total Gym 2000 as you learn how to do cardio and strength training moves.

Users love the easy glide motion and the smooth, quiet operation of Total Gym’s 2000 model. Even large users who are expecting squeaks and groans like some K-Mart contraption are delighted with the quality of the machines. These gyms have large benches and have very sturdy construction to hold up large users. The 2000 model has a 250-lb capacity; larger users need to upgrade to the 3000 or XLS models. Total Gym’s 2000 model is an ideal gym for older, out-of-shape individuals. It is not a gym for guys looking to bulk up and get big muscles; it’s for those looking to achieve a leaner, more toned body. The company boasts that these gyms can be easily stored away but at almost 8’ in length, don’t expect it to slide under the bed without some problems.

Our Take

We highly recommend you take a moment to view the Christie Brinkley demo video at the official site. The video is actually somewhat funny -- the cameraman focuses more on Christie than the machine, but you get the idea of the smoothness and versatility of the machine. The Total Gym 2000 sells for around $599 (with Free Shipping) and it will do most everything you want to do. If Christie can’t convince you of the quality here, an alternative is the Bayou Total Trainer Pilates Pro (with Toe Bar) that sells on Amazon for about the same price.
