The Buzz
This Powertec leverage system is built on a solid frame consisting of 3" and 2.5"steel tubing. Since this Workbench Leverage Multi-Gym uses pillow block bearings for its smooth lifting motion, there are no cables or pulleys used, making it maintenance free. Trainers and fitness pros endorse the Powertec series for their workmanship, durability, stability, warranty, and functionality. If you lift heavy, you can use this system in place of a Smith machine and work to failure without a spotter.
Home gym reviews are universally positive of these well-built multi-gym leverage machines. There are a few minor complaints regarding user size on some stations; for example, large users don’t care for the ab crunch set-up, but the positives far outweigh any negatives. The Powertec Workbench Multi-Gym is easier to assemble than other home gyms since you don’t have a mess of cables and pulleys to deal with, but if you are challenged by the notion of a 6-hour assembly with limited instructions, you should buy the In-Home Assembly Service from the website where you purchase the gym.
Our Take
At $1399, the Powertec Workbench Leverage Multi-gym provides a solid foundation on which to build a home workout room. We recommend you buy enough Olympic plates for all three stations so that you can keep your heart pumping on the circuit and don’t waste time loading and unloading plates. Also, note that there are a couple of upgrades on this design: Powertec has included contoured pads for more comfort, and they changed the lever lat bar to a swivel bar to accommodate close grip pulls, plus a rotational bar for Triceps pushdowns. We highly recommend the Powertec Workbench Multi-Gym to help you achieve your strength training goals.
