The Powertec Power Rack Gets a "Best Investment" Rating

The Powertec Power Rack is one of the best choices you can make if you are looking for the foundation of a real Olympic Weights gym set-up. As an investment, along with a good FID bench and a barbell and set of plates, you won’t need anything else to lift heavy and build muscle.

The Rack

The Powertec Power Rack is for the main lifts of free weights rack work: squats, seated barbell overhead press, and bench press (flat, incline, and decline). You can expand your workouts to include military press, deadlifts (off the spotter bars), as well as pull-ups and dips. For cable work, you could opt to add a Powertec Lat Tower for pull-downs.

Powertec Power Rack The specs on the Power Rack are:

  • Chin-up Bar
  • Dip Bars
  • Dimensions: 51"L x 50"W x 82"H / 203 lbs
  • Warranty — Lifetime frame; 2 years on parts (bearings, spring pins), 1 year on pads, grips
  • Weight load capacities: Rack system – 1000 lbs,
    Chin-up & Dip Bars – 400 lbs body weight

Optional: Lat Tower - $499

Note: Olympic weight plates and bar sold separately.

The Buzz

Power racks are excellent for safely performing barbell exercises such as squats and bench press, which are the mack-daddy of all lifting, without a spotter. Equipment pros declare this Powertec rack a high quality piece of equipment, and you would be hard pressed to find a better rack at a better price.

Compare Powertec Equipment at BigFitness

Home gym reviews on this power rack are positive across the board. This is a durable frame with a wide walk-in design. The angled dip bars can be attached pointing in or out allowing the user to do a variety of wide or narrow grip dips regardless of the lifter’s size. All users report that this Powertec rack is very solid and the initial assembly was easy.

Our Take

Power racks aren’t suitable to the average guy who just wants to get in shape, but they are ideal for lifters who are looking for real muscle gain. Nothing beats a human spotter for lifting safely, as well as having a buddy to workout with, but if you lift alone you can work to failure without fear of getting crushed by your own equipment. This $499 Powertec Power Rack (model P-PR) is all you will need for fundamental power lifting inside a rack. Recommended.
