The Buzz

The compact Powerline PHG1000X Single Stack home gym features a patented press arm system that functions as a chest press station as well as performing pec flys. The high and low pulley positions let you do lat pulldowns, pressdowns, and leg extensions, curls, and more. It has a width and depth footprint so it will fit in almost any space, although with an 84" high clearance needed for the high pulley system make sure you have enough ceiling space for this unit.

Powerline has listened to customers and reviewers and started shipping the two other single stack gyms, the P1X and the BSG10x, in two main sections, some 90 percent preassembled. They haven’t gotten to the PHG1000X yet – it still comes in a million pieces that will take you from . The instructions are poorly detailed, so that is another issue. Current owners have been very frustrated trying to assemble their gyms, but once it is completed correctly, they love the gym.

Our Take

The Powerline PHG1000X Single Stack home gym attracts a lot of attention because of the cheap price. It is a solid and well-made gym, and you should know that it also sells under the name Body Solid Hardcore Home Gym. You will need some resistance, of course, so add the cost of 150-lb selectorized weight stack, which will run approximately $230, for a total price of $630. For a better deal, spend $500 on one of the Best Fitness Home gyms, the Sportsman’s Gym BFMG10 or BFMG20 (like Powerline, they are also made by parent company Body Solid). Both BF gyms come complete with weight stacks, and at 79" high they will fit in your basement with some ceiling clearance.
