The Buzz

Fitness experts tout these types of multi-angle functional trainers because they deliver some pretty effective results thanks to the amount of work your core stabilizer muscles are called on to do during the exercises. With traditional strength training gyms, your muscles work concentrically only.

The NordicTrack Personal Trainer III uses a patented Continuous Resistance System which applies resistance in both directions -- concentrically and eccentrically. The Free Motion arms rotate to five different positions similar to the low, mid, and high pulley stations of functional trainers. These angles allow athletes to mimic motions they use during sports and competitions, such as throwing motions, swings, and more, so that they can develop muscle memory and motor function as well as strength.

The Personal Trainer III comes mostly assembled so you can start your first NordicTrack workout within minutes, right out of the box. Users find that the Power Compression Technology allows them to shift from a low resistance of 10 lbs up to a max of 210 lbs. with just a quick shift, so the trainer is very easy to use.

Our Take

With Free Motion you move natural in any direction and you are not stuck in a fixed path like you’ll find on a traditional resistance training home gym. Reviews point out that this type of muscle engagement works the core stabilizer muscles much harder, giving you more effective results. You’ll burn calories and develop a leaner, tighter body in half the time. With a current sale price of $599 (MSRP of $1,999), the NordicTrack Personal Trainer III is a great all-purpose home gym, and it rates a Good Buy.
