The Buzz

Since vibration platforms were introduced some years ago, the NordicTrack Activator V3 has been dubbed an “anti-aging machine.” The constant rapid muscle contractions – up to 60 times per second – strengthen the skeletal muscles and works on improving bone density. It will also burn fat and increase metabolism, as well as improve the blood circulation, lymphatic drainage, and oxygen delivery. All of those health benefits help to slow the aging process.

Well, that is, doing the exercises several times a week … plus a balanced diet, good sleep, and avoiding sugar, caffeine, and tobacco. In other words, a healthy lifestyle plus conventional resistance training using free weights or a home gym will give you the results you seek. The addition of whole body vibration (WBV) exercises no more than three times a week in short sessions gives you a high-intensity training program that will take you to the next level in a short amount of time.

Whole body vibratory stimulation training using machines such as the NordicTrack V3 Activator platform are still in the study stage but there have been some good results for many test subjects. The workout consists of 30 to 60 seconds of reps with little rest time in between, much the same as you would do in resistance training. Popping in the iFit workout program leads you from one exercise to the next to achieve this high intensity pace.

There are some warnings on WBV exercise machines:

  • Not recommended for people with cardiovascular or spinal problems
  • Not for people who have recently had surgery
  • Not for daily use
  • Do not stay on more than 20 minutes in a session
