The Buzz
The Gold’s Gym XR 45 home gym has eight weight plates (25-27 lbs each) with a pin selector, a non-adjustable vinyl seat, and a lat tower. It has a short 90-day warranty and a max user weight of 300 lbs. While it isn’t the best quality, if you don’t need to lift a lot of resistance and want a compact unit that covers more than 50 exercises (if you include one-arm exercises separately you come up with that many), this machine will do nicely.
Home gym reviews are largely positive on this inexpensive Gold’s Gym unit with many remarks that the value is equal to the price paid. The only warning offered by reviewers is that it will take 4 or 5 hours to assemble the XR 45 and you must follow the instructions carefully, or you will have to disassemble it and redo some steps to get the cables right.
Our Take
The Gold’s Gym XR 45 home gym is a good deal if you have a limited budget. This gym is best suited as a gift for a young teen just getting involved in lifting, or perhaps a senior or small adult, but it isn’t something that should be considered seriously by most adults who will find it limiting in options. For $257, it makes sense only as a starter gym to use for a year or two.
