The Buzz
The Gold’s Gym XR 18.9 Olympic bench comes with adjustable weight crutches, a rolled preacher pad to isolate bicep and forearm exercises, and a 6-roll leg developer to build the quads, hamstrings, glutes, and hip-flexors. The leg developer has a standard size plate holder (an Olympic sleeve adapter is optional). The gym has integrated weight plate storage at the back, as well as a place to store the preacher pad when not in use. It also comes with an exercise chart so you can get the most out of your workouts.
Note: This Gold’s Gym bench is Olympic width, which means the weight posts will fit a 7-ft bar. A 5-ft bar is too short and won’t work on this set-up. The bar rests are 2 inches wide, and 27 inches apart on the outside dimensions. The user + weights max capacity is not listed in sales literature, but you can expect it to be around 400 - 450 pounds. Since the XR 18.9 does not have a safety catch, it isn’t a good idea to lift too heavy on this bench since you could lose control of the bar and drop it on your chest or neck.
Our Take
The Gold’s Gym XR 18.9 Olympic bench gets good to excellent reviews. Users have found this $149 unit to be sturdy, easy to assemble, and offer better quality than expected. The FID bench compares in quality to benches costing $300 or more, though do take note that it has a lower weight limit compared to a better quality bench.
