The Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE Home Gym: The Upper Body, No-Cable Change System

The new Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE Home Gym is the mid-range model with a few advanced features not found on the entry-level Classic, Motivator, and Sport models. It also offers an affordable alternative to the high-end Ultimate 2 and Revolution Series.

The Gym

With the Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE Home Gym, they took some of the best features of the Ultimate 2, and then incorporated it into a Space and Time Saving Design. Some of the features are found with an optional lat tower, which adjusts to two positions, and the adjustable seat which has a quick-release feature to remove it for leg work.

The specs on the Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE are:

Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE Home Gym
  • 210 lbs of PowerRod® Resistance (upgradeable to 310 lbs)
  • No-change Cable Pulley System
  • Leg Developer (curls/extensions)
  • 2-Position Lat Tower with Angled Lat Bar
  • 4-Position Adjustable Lower Pulleys
  • Ergonomic Adjustable Seat
  • Dimensions – 58"L x 49"W x 83" H
  • 7-year Limited Warranty on Machine; No Time Limit Warranty on Power Rods
  • Accessories included – ab crunch shoulder harness, 5-way hand grip/ankle cuff, manual & fitness guide

The Buzz

The Bowflex Power Rod® Series offer a form of resistance that feels as good as or better than free weights although it may take a new user some time to get used to the feel. The rods are upgradeable to 310 lbs so you aren’t limited to just the 210-lb max resistance. Since the Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE does not come with a leg press, trainers also like that this system includes a full squat exercise allowing the user to hit the core stabilizer muscles as well as the legs.

The Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE lacks a few features commonly found on other multi-gyms, like aerobic rowing, but it has more than enough exercises to get you motivated and in shape. Home gym reviews on this one like the speed of the workouts, plus the no-cable change design that allows users to get their workout done without having to stop and configure a new set-up. Since users don’t experience the types of joint strain on a Bowflex that are usually associated with lifting free weights, their Bowflex home gyms have added immeasurably to their lives as they lose weight and get definition in their muscles.

Our Take

The Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE is an updated version of the Xtreme SE home gym which does not have the no-cable change feature. The compact size of the Xtreme 2 allows it to fit in most any room, and at $1,599, it’s hundreds of dollars less than the upper line Bowflex models. The Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE is a heavy, solid machine that will get you in better shape in about 4 weeks, and the best shape of your life in a few months. The infomercials on the Bowflex machines aren’t hype; the 20-minute workouts three times a week will have you feeling great and give you tons of energy if you follow the plan. The Bowflex Xtreme 2 SE Home Gym is Recommended.
